Messe Duesseldorf:Shared the latest information of drupa

The drupa guidance organised by Messe Düsseldorf was held at Andaz Tokyo on Wednesday 17 January from 11:00. Following opening remarks by Akiko Obara, President of Messe Dusseldorf Japan, the well-known drupa director Ms Sabine Geldermann gave a presentation on the latest information, and Mr Nakane, President of the leading German company KURZ in Japan, gave a presentation on the benefits of exhibiting.

There were more than 50 attendees from the printing and packaging industry as well as media representatives. The presentations were followed by a lunch reception, where active exchanges took place and information was exchanged.

The breakdown (top 10) of the total exhibition area of 140,000 square metres is as follows, with Germany, China and Italy occupying the top three positions in terms of exhibition area and number of exhibitors. Japan appears to be in around 8th position in terms of both exhibition area and number of exhibitors, but there is a small trick behind this.

In many cases, Japanese companies have applied to exhibit through their subsidiary in Europe, in which case they are counted in the country of their legal domicile (e.g. Konicaminolta Europe is counted as a  German exhibitor). If we recount the number of exhibitors in Japan, where the head office of is located, the total exhibition area is 18,948 square metres, 46 companies, 412 square metres of exhibition space per company, as shown in the slide below, and Japan moves up to third place in terms of exhibition area.

On the other hand, China, which ranks second in terms of (total) exhibition space, has 23,215 square metres, 366 exhibitors and 63 square metres of exhibition space per company, so in a nutshell, the image is of a large number of small companies exhibiting in small booths. Many Japanese companies have established major brands, and if you actually go to drupa, you will get the impression that they maintain a large presence, as they have in the past.
