The Dutch company Albumprinter BV, which is is one of the largest European printers of photo books, has installed the continents’s first B1 HP Indigo 50000 at its production facility in The Hague.
Albumprinter has installed Europe’s first Indigo 50000 press.
Albumprinter runs a number of brands including Bonusprint in the UK and Albelli in the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Belgium. The company also operates Fotoknudsen and OnskeFoto in Norway and Sweden and recently acquired Resnap, a startup with an app that uses artificial intelligence to choose the best pictures to create a photo album quickly.

The Indigo 50000 is a duplex B1 colour web press that can deliver 2438 dpi resolution. As with all Indigo’s, it can take seven colours. That said, the standard approach is CMYK though there’s also a 6-colour photo printing colour set that includes light cyan and light magenta for better skin tones. It prints a 746 x 1120 mm image size that can impose up to 10 A4 pages. It’s aimed at high-quality, high-volume applications and has the image quality and substrate flexibility that Indigo’s known for.

Tristan Money, chief executive of Albelli, explains: “With the Indigo 50000, Albumprinter is capable of printing digitally in the B1 format, double-sided. This format opens up a new world of applications, and imposition efficiencies, which are not possible on any other Indigo press.” This includes photo books, yearbooks,lay-flat books,long book covers, and calendars.

The company installed its first Indigo, a sheetfed 5000 press, in 2007 and has grown steadily since then, adding the first European W7200, following with a W7250 and later a WS6600p for layflat books. Last year Albumprinter installed its first B2 sized HP Indigo 12000 Digital Press. Money adds: “This latest investment ensures we can leverage and capture our current double-digit growth in the business with the extra benefit of lower costs.”
