Essentially Agfa appears to have sold a selected list of its OEM customers for UV inkjet inks in the single pass packaging and labels industry, along with some intellectual property and services in the production of these inks. In order to ensure a smooth transition for those customers, Agfa will continue to manufacture this ink on behalf of Siegwerk for several months. After this, Siegwerk will produce the new inks and varnishes at its own inkjet manufacturing centre in Annemasse, France. Siegwerk will also be free to offer this new UV inkjet portfolio to customers worldwide.

Tom Cloots, director Industrial Inkjet for Agfa NV, explains: “With this deal, we allow Siegwerk to extensively leverage on our strong network with OEM print head and equipment manufacturers as well as on our know-how and intellectual property in the domain of UV curable digital inks for packaging. At the same time, Agfa continues to focus on the other domains of the growing industrial print segment where Agfa has stronger market access potential.”

Siegwerk has been busy refocussing its business over the last couple of years with a number of strategic acquisitions. This includes selling its web offset business to Flint Group and acquiring Van Son Liquids to improve its water-based flexo packaging inks.
