Mutoh launches two new XpertJet large format printers
Mutoh has released two new 162cm wide format printers that appear to be the first of a new XpertJet platform that will ultimately replace the ValueJet series.

Mutoh has released this XpertJet 1682SR eco-solvent large format printer, able to take two sets of CMYK or a 7-colour inkset.

XpertJet 1641SRおよび 1682SRは、いずれも日本で開発および製造されたエコソルベントロールフィードプリンターです。プリントキャリッジ用の新しいアルミニウムレールシステムが特徴で、以前の ValueJetシリーズよりも剛性が高いと言われており、より正確なドロップ配置が可能です。また、作業領域を照らす内部 LED照明を備えた新しい印刷プラテンがあり、オペレーターが印刷を見ることができます。
The XpertJet 1641SR and 1682SR are both eco-solvent rollfed printers, developed and manufactured in Japan. They feature a new aluminium rail system for the print carriage that’s said to be more rigid than the previous ValueJet series for more accurate drop placement. They also have a new print platen with internal LED lighting to illuminate the work area so that operators can see the printing.

Naturally the XpertJet machines use Mutoh’s intelligent interweaving system. They also have an improved DropMaster system that automatically adjusts the jetting according to the thickness of the media loaded. There’s an integrated colour sensor for automatic bidirectional alignment. In addition, these printers can be monitored remotely from a smartphone or tablet via Mutoh Status Monitoring, which is available for both Apple iOS and Android platforms.

The XpertJet 1641SR is a single head 4-colour model, while the XpertJet 1682SR is a dual staggered head model that can be loaded with two sets of CMYK or a new 7 colour – CMYK, Lc, Lm, Lk – MS-41 series ink set. The 1641SR runs at up to 53.4 sqm/hr though Mutoh lists 5-10 sqm/hr as its production sweet spot. The 1682SR with dual CMYK inks can produce up to 87 sqm/hr though its production sweet spot is 10-15 sqm/hr, while with 7-colours it can produce up to a maximum of 48.1 sqm/hr but 5-10 sqm/hr is listed as its sweet spot.

The new inks are said to offer a wide colour gamut, with the 7-colour inkset designed mainly for high quality photorealistic work at short viewing distances. They are suitable for long term outdoor and indoor commercial graphics, with good outdoor durability, abrasion and chemical resistance scores. Mutoh quotes three years outdoor life without lamination. The inks come in 1 litre packs and the printer has LED indicators to show the remaining ink levels for each cartridge.

There’s a new multi stage pressurizing mechanism that should lead to more stable media feeding by letting users set the pressure for different types of media, such as High for slippery media, Middle for standard PVC or Low for thin or soft media. Operators can also minimize the risk of cockling by canceling multiple pressure rollers individually. The media can be loaded by a single operator, helped by a new 40 kg motorised winder system and new coreless media feed flanges that can be mounted in advance to exchange multiple rolls. These printers take media up to 2.8mm thick and 1625mm wide.

Kenji Yasuhara, Mutoh Europe’s managing director, explained: “Mutoh has been a pioneer in sign & display printers ever since 2004. XpertJet is already our fifth generation of sign & display printers. The XpertJets are the successors of our multi-awarded ValueJet 1624X and ValueJet 1638X printers.”
