Cloudprinter takes the Express
Cloudprinter, which offers a web-to-print service that connects customers with print service providers, has launched a new Express service that allows customers to connect directly to its Global Print Cloud but without having to first set up any form of integration.
CloudPrinter has teamed up with Enfocus, developing apps to link with the Enfocus Switch workflow.

Instead users simply install the application once on their desktop and can then submit print orders by drag-and-dropping their files, or directly from the program used to create those files. It also includes over 500 product templates for things such as flyers, letterheads and business cards, and for various sizes, paper types and finishes.

Essentially, this works by installing a preconfigured printer driver that can create Certified PDFs and upload them to the Cloudprinter’s Global Print Cloud. Once there, the system preflights the files before sending the job to a suitable printer. Cloudprinter has arrangements with printers in over 100 countries and pledges to pick the one nearest to your delivery address to minimise costs and time. The prices are set by the printers with Cloudprinter adding a €2.50 fee per job plus €0.25 x the quantity printed. It operates on a pay-as-you-go basis, and the Express application includes a dashboard for payment details as well as for tracking the status of your order.

Cloudprinter has also done away with the minimum monthly fee to access its Global Print Cloud for those customers using its existing Print API integration. Instead the company charges per print job, depending on the quantity of that job. Brian Raaijmakers, customer success manager for Cloudprinter, says that this is because the company had noticed that some customers didn’t need much in the way of support and felt that it was unfair to charge them for this. There’s a choice of different service levels, with the Starter level having the same pricing as above, while the Business level comes with a service subscription but with lower prices per job and a degree of support. Raaijmakers says that the crossover point is 181 print jobs per month.

It’s worth noting that the Print API does offer quite a bit more flexibility than the Cloudprinter Express in terms of setting up product templates and for determining how jobs are routed to printers, but then you would expect that for API-level integration. Either way, both of these developments, the Cloudprinter Express and the change to the pricing model, continue Cloudprinter’s stated aim of disrupting online pricing models for printing.
