Industrial Revolution with Inkjet !

The show got off to a slow start, which is fairly common as people travel to Munich. But by lunchtime it was quite busy with many meetings spread across all the stands and most of the vendors that I spoke with were happy with the level of interest they were getting from visitors.

Polytype develops inkjet printers for specific industrial applications, such as direct to shape bottles, plastic cartridges and metal canisters. The company also develops its own software and electronics. Florian Fassler, head of digital technologies, says that the company sells both to industrial manufacturers looking to digitise their own production as well as to OEMs.

EFI announced a new version of its Nozomi corrugated press, the Nozomi 14000, a 1.4m wide machine that’s primarily aimed at the corrugated packaging market. This is smaller than the existing C18000 plus which takes 1.8 x 3m boards and can also cater for display graphics for point of sale work. The new machine has a more compact design that should be easier to install and simpler to maintain. However, it has just six channels where the bigger version can run up to seven colours. The new company eProductivity Systems, which split from EFI earlier this year, shared a stand with EFI. EPS also announced a new version of its AutoCount software, which can be used to track jobs through production. This can now be run off the cloud so it’s easy to access and work with once it’s integrated onto the shop floor. The photo shows Andrew Bennett, senior product specialist for EPS.

I spoke with Clive Ayling, managing director of Meteor Inkjet, which is part of the Hybrid Software group. He says that he has seen a reasonable level of business at the show, whilst noting that it is much smaller than previous years.
