Inktec launches three LED wide format printers
Inktec has announced three new wide format Jetrix printers, including two flatbeds and a roll to roll machine, all of which use UV LED curing.
This Jetrix LXi6 is a UV LED flatbed printer from Inktec.

The flatbeds are the LXi6 and the slightly larger LXi7, which are essentially further iterations of the existing KX6 and KX7 models but with the addition of the LED curing and a new graphical user interface. They also gain Konica Minolta’s 1024i printheads, which deliver drop sizes of 6-14 picolitres and resolution from 900×360 dpi up to 1080 x 720dpi. The can produce up to 76 and 78 sqm/hr respectively. Ben Woodruff, head of Jetrix sales for Inktec Europe, says that they should produce production print quality at around 44 sqm/hr, which seems fairly respectable for this type of printer.

The standard configuration is CMYK but both printers can take up to eight heads and be loaded with white, varnish and primer as well.

The only difference between the two flatbeds is the size, with the LXi6 taking media up to 2.5 x 1.28m and costing around £100,000, while the LXi7 accepts media up to 2.5 x 3.06m and costs around £130,000. There’s a roll-to-roll option available for both. Woodruff sees plenty of opportunity for these machines, saying: “We see a gap because there’s not a massive amount of machines in the mid-range and we can compete on price and speed.”

The roll-fed machine is the LXiR190, which is a 1.9m wide version of the existing 3.2m wide LXiR320. This width allows the printer to use two 914mm rolls at once. The spindle can keep the rolls separated but is not split, meaning that the two rolls have to have an equal amount of material. This machine prints at a maximum resolution of 720 x 1,440 dpi and up to speeds of 45sqm/hr. It takes CMYK with white as an option.

It’s priced at around £45k with Woodruff saying that there is a lot of interest from solvent printers wanting to move to UV, adding: “I think a lot of customers are seeing UV as a more rounded product.” The ink is priced at around £75 per litre, which should be competitive against many solvent printers given that the UV machines can print to cheaper uncoated media, and are immediately ready for finishing with no gassing out needed and no issues with harmful VOCs.
