Mimaki to sell second 3D printer
Mimaki has announced a new 3D printer, the 3DFF-222, which is a rebadged Sindoh 3DWOX1. Sindoh is a south Korean company that manufactures 3D printers and multi-function printers.
The Sindoh 3DWOX1/ Mimaki 3DFF-222 uses the Fused Filament Fabrication method and comes with a mobile app.

It’s a small desktop device, printing 1.75mm PLA resin using the Fused Filament Fabrication or FFF approach, which is where a plastic resin is melted so that it can be extruded through a nozzle to build up objects in layers. PLA (Poly-Lactic Acid) filament is a hard, robust material that is a plant-derived eco-plastic made from corn and potato starch. The 3DFF-222 uses a single 0.4mm extruder and can print parts up to 210mm x 200mm x 195mm.

It has a flexible metal bed with built-in thermostatic function, which makes it both easier to form stable objects and to remove those objects from the bed after printing. It also has a Bed Levelling Assist feature that automatically measures and corrects the horizontal error of the table to help produce more accurate parts. It’s fitted with a High Efficiency Particulate Air filter to cut down on odours and the motor drivers have been designed to reduce noise levels during use.

In addition, there’s a camera and LED light in the unit itself, plus an app available, which together allow for remote monitoring of each print job via WiFi. The printer itself uses Sindoh’s 3DWOX slicing software.

Mimaki is mainly pushing it as an easy way to produce jigs for holding objects to be printed on, as well as for creating elements for three-dimensional signage. The 3D printer can also be used to create molds for creating vacuum-molded products, which could be handly for prototypes and very short runs. The idea is that customers will be able to pair it with one of Mimaki’s UV flatbed printers. Bert Benckhuysen, senior product manager at Mimaki Europe, explained: “The 3D printer also complements our sign and display printers seamlessly. The 3DFF-222 is capable of inexpensively producing customised print jigs, which can be used to stabilise print quality when printing on flatbed direct-to-shape UV LED printers from our UJF Series.”

He added: “Sign and display printers can also benefit with time and cost savings through efficient in-house manufacturing of eye-catching colourful indoor signs and channel letters, which are 3D-printed first and then decorated using Mimaki’s UV printers in LD mode, allowing high quality print on three-dimensional objects.”

This new printer will be shown at the Sign and Digital show in the UK next week and will be available from Mimaki across Europe from the end of April. However, it’s worth noting that Sindoh has been selling this printer since at least September last year, and usually distributes it through Amazon. Also, Mimaki says that this printer should only be used with its own branded filament but the Sindoh version can work with filament from any vendor.
