JITF2026:Summary Report

JITF2026 concluded on 19 (Monday) and 20 (Tuesday) October, with the entire programme—comprising tabletop exhibitions, presentations and networking receptions—proving a resounding success.

Once again, we welcomed Ms Sabine Geldermann, Director of drupa at Messe Düsseldorf, as our guest of honour, continuing our approach of going beyond a mere industry trade fair to consciously prioritise international connections.

Whilst events of this kind tend to become stale if they are simply repeated in the same format, I believe that incorporating numerous new and innovative elements to prevent this was a key factor in the event’s resounding success.

1. From this event onwards, we have moved from the Ichigaya venue—which had become too cramped after four previous editions—to Kyobashi Edogran, near Tokyo Station, thereby significantly expanding the space (by approximately 30 per cent). Consequently, the number of exhibiting companies reached a record high of 65; however, I believe this allowed for calm and relaxed business discussions and meetings in a spacious, uncrowded atmosphere.
2. On the third day, we organised a separate event (JHVP) dedicated to high-viscosity inks, which provided an opportunity for exhibitors who did not have time to speak at the main event to showcase their high-viscosity capabilities. Whilst there has been a sense of stagnation in the inkjet sector, which has traditionally focused on printing, we believe attendees were able to sense that the industry is moving into a new era by being quick to adopt the latest trends from Europe.
3. We enhanced our coffee service, and the café area with its superb views was also well received by all exhibitors.

1. Bearing in mind that not all exhibiting companies wished to give a full presentation, we categorised them into ‘Full Presentation’, ‘Company Introduction’ and ‘Declined’, and were thus able to provide presentation venues and content tailored to each company’s preferences.
2. We secured two fairly large rooms for the venue and set up a space for company introductions at the rear of the reception area. As I was circulating around the venue, I was unable to see every room, but from what I did see, I believe the rooms were generally full and the event was a great success.

1. With 450 pre-registered attendees, this was our largest event to date. I was a little concerned as the venue was a 10-minute walk from the main venue and reportedly had only two lifts, but my worries proved unfounded. Personally, I had rarely had the opportunity to attend such a large banquet for 450 people outside of a school-wide alumni reunion, so it was truly moving to see the vast venue filled to capacity—so much so that those at the very back needed binoculars! I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
2. We were honoured to welcome as our guests of honour Ms Sabine Geldermann, Director of drupa, and Mr Takashima, President of artience Holdings; as special guests, Mr Kuribayashi, President of Epson Japan, which has rebranded and embarked on a new chapter; and Mr Morita, Senior Managing Director of Sakata Inx, who is set to become President of the operating company following organisational reforms next year. We asked Professor Sakai of Yamagata University, representing the Japanese inkjet academic community, to deliver the closing remarks. I have always believed that ‘executive-level executives and presidents must be involved’ in events such as this. However, once one becomes an executive, one tends to be shunned, and subordinates stop inviting one to such occasions; moreover, it becomes difficult to take the initiative oneself. Although I was only able to introduce a few people due to time constraints, I was delighted and deeply grateful that so many other presidents and executives were able to attend.
3. We received favourable feedback regarding both the quality and quantity of the food and drink.

As a first-of-its-kind initiative, we organised a premium event focusing on ‘systems for the stable dispensing of high-viscosity liquids’, a field that is gaining momentum in Europe. The speakers included Mr Yoshinori Domae, Director of the inkjet research institute at a Swiss university and the overall coordinator of the event; Mr Ramon Borrell, who leads the technology for high-viscosity projects at QUANTICA; Mr Tri Thladhar, an authority on rheology; and Mr Shoji Koike from Patent Research. We were also delighted to welcome representatives from Nissan Motor, Mitsui Chemicals and Rengo to the case study workshop, making for a highly rewarding day.
